I was trained & worked with Dave at Shell Research for several years, back in the 1970’s-early 80’s, in Tunstall & have fond memories of him going off to play football well into his 40-50’s.
He was always a kind and considerate lovely man with a very dry sense of humour.
My husband and I send our sincerest condolences to Gwyneth and family.

We worked with Dave in the Sittingbourne (Woodstock) Laboratories from the mid-1960s to the mid-1970s and we have nothing but the fondest memories of him. In those early days we were a young vibrant community and had many after-work activities, one of which was car rallying. The rallies often had a quiz associated with them. One particular rally passed through many of the central Kent villages and the quiz question was “How many dens did you pass through today?”. Well, we had passed through Tenterden, Rolvenden, Biddenden, Benenden, Marden and others. These alone added up to 5 “dens” for the normal person. But Dave, being of a rather clever persuasion noticed that Tenterden added up alone to 30 “dens” (ten = 10 and ter = 3) and so he wrote one of the most brilliant poems in which he found possibly over 100 “dens”. In the middle he even fitted in the comment “Now den”. We regret we never kept a copy but it shows what a clever old stick he was.
Fondest memories

Dave and I were colleagues at Shell Research for many years. Dave was utterly reliable and very good at his job. As a friend he was a rock of stability. After retirement Dave was deeply involved with the Kent branch of the Shell Pensioners Association. As a fellow committee member I had great respect for him. It was an honour to be part of his life. I will miss him.
