In loving memory of Derick Tissington who sadly passed away on 6th May 2026, aged 88 years.
Much loved husband of the late Doreen, and adored father, grandad and great-grandad.
We shall miss his sense of humour, love of nature, gardening, and his love for his whole family. As a young man Derick worked in Central Garage in Retford, and Kingsbury Concrete in Torworth, before National Service. After 1957 he returned to Kingsbury, then the Ductube Company. When Ductube closed he moved to Avercet Engineering but was unable to work after an industrial accident.
Reduced movement in his arm didn't stop him however. In his enforced early retirement he made a wonderful garden at the bungalow he shared with Doreen, and both enjoyed their caravan in Filey before illness began to take its toll. Derick adored Filey and his grandchildren have fond memories of the fun they had with their Grandad (and the illicit bacon sandwiches they enjoyed). Derick was always adored by children and never fully lost his sense of fun.
After his wife Doreen passed away, Derick mourned her loss until dementia robbed him of his cherished memories, and after some time at home he ended his days in Hunter's Lodge Residential Home near Melton Mowbray. He is survived by his sister, Irene and his three children, Andrew, Joanne and Mark, with their wives and partners Sonia, Gary, and Christina as well as his grandchildren Sarah, Helen, Sam and Laura. He was a real favourite for his great-grandsons, Jasper, Reuben and Bowie, to whom he was 'Grandad the Great' or simply 'Great'.
Derick's funeral service will take place on Friday 22nd May 2026 in St. Barnabas' Church Ranskill at 11.00am followed by interment in Ranskill Cemetery.
