In loving memory of our very special friend Fred. Such a talented, kind, exceptional man. One of life's true gentlemen. May he rest in peace with Avril.

With very fond memories of Fred who brightened up many Thursday mornings as a volunteer in Stroke Association's Nottingham office.

A privilege to know Fred and to work with him over the years. His wisdom and thoughtful approach to our work profoundly shaped my own ethos regarding patient and public involvement.

Fred brought not only his insight but also his humour, and generosity. He leaves behind a lasting legacy through the stroke research he influenced.

My thoughts are with his family & friends.

You and Dave basically taught me what Patient and Public Involvement is and its value from the time that I first qualified until now. You consistently thought creatively about how PPI could work best, always with well-considered perspectives and a razor sharp wit. You always knew how to bring things back to what was most important for patients.

You have left an incredible legacy. Whenever the path ahead felt unclear, your advice and quiet wisdom helped us to find our way through. You had a rare gift of being able to light up a room, whether it was your smile or a perfectly timed quip.

You stood for inclusion, making sure every voice felt heard, valued, and able to make a difference.

I will always remember how welcoming you and Avril were, opening your home for a team social and so proudly sharing your garden. It meant a great deal to all of us.

Your legacy lives on in the difference we will continue to make. We miss you Fred.

Fred was at the Institute before me and he was always there for a chat, to help, to give his thoughts and generally be a helpful chap. He loved being helpful and really wanted his knowledge and the knowledge of other people to be included in what we do in the health service and in research. Fred has left a big hole in the places he worked and lived.

My thoughts and prayers go to his family and close friends at this time.

You inspired me for nearly 50 years

Thank you Fred, it was a real honour to have known you and to have worked with you for so long. You were generous, inciteful, positive and always happy to help. I will never forget when, early in my PPI role, I asked you for advice on how I should approach what I was doing. Without hesitation, you agreed to meet with me at the Lakeside cafe the next day. You and Avril arrived and we had a lovely, long talk together. Fred, you were very giving, calming and a good listener that day and made me feel a lot better. Thank you.

Fred has been a key figure in the Nottingham Stroke Research Partnership Group over the years, with the aim of improving the lives of other stroke survivors. Fred, your legacy will continue to inspire us and live on in the future - we'll make sure of that. We will miss your wisdom, concern for others, positivity, courage.. and your Christmas cartoon jokes. Helen and all your friends in the group. x
