Sometimes during your life you meet a special person that doesn’t completely influence your life or your decisions but they make your life better for just being a person you can look back on at the end of your time on earth and say What a lovely person that was
We know Richard through the church and also we are honoured to have been able to look after him and Rita through DCK Care
Our Carers think of him fondly
He was a nice man

Dear Jonathan / Rosie & the rest of the Portwood family,
We are sorry for the loss of our dear RICHARD.
But as RICHARD said to us once in 1999, "INDIA'S LOSS IS UK'S GAIN" ~ when we finally got our visa to return to the UK to complete our studies then ~ yes, IT'S OUR LOSS HERE NOW, but it is HEAVEN'S GAIN.

Richard (and Rita, of course) were like our parents when we were in the UK for 2 years, from the fall of 1998 to the summer of 2000. They made our stay comfortable, welcomed us for long weekends, picked us up at the airport, and have supported us ever since.
It's a pity that we can't be there to pay our respect for his final rites, but know that we are with you all in spirit.

On 17th March, during our family prayer time at night, I (Rajan) told Carmen that it had been a long time since we had heard about Richard's health, and I wondered how he was doing.
And at that moment, I felt led to pray that God would keep Richard in good health, or if his time on earth was up, to take him peacefully, without any bodily affliction.
And the next day, we heard from Jonathan that it was around the same time that Richard breathed his last.

I am sure heaven is rejoicing, and more importantly, Richard & Rita are rejoicing in God's presence and with each other. The HOPE they were so looking forward to is there for eternity before them now.
And we take comfort and joy in the hope that we will meet them one day, too.

Our deepest condolences to the family who are grieving his loss here on earth. May the God of all comfort, comfort you all and enable you to experience His peace which passes all human understanding.

Gentle, kind, loving, altruistic, faithful, genuine.. the first words that come to mind to describe this beautiful man that you, my friend Jonathan, were privileged to call your Dad. Your friends were his friends. I don't know how many times I/we benefitted from his warm hospitality. I can hear his chuckle in my head. A life well lived, and a fine legacy left behind in his children and grandchildren. Wishing you all comfort x
