Alan Lionel Dodd (Taffurelli) 23rd October 1943 — 1st April 2026
________________________________________
It is with profound sadness and a heart full of love that I announce the passing of my darling husband, Alan Lionel Dodd (Taffurelli), on 1st April 2026, aged 82.
Alan was, in every sense of the word, a good man. Caring and compassionate to his very core, he approached everything in life with his whole heart — there was no half measure with Alan. Whatever he gave, he gave completely. He was also, quite simply, wonderful fun. Whether he was the life and soul of a celebration, finding the humor in the everyday, or making those around him laugh without even trying, his joy was infectious and his spirit utterly irrepressible. He had a rare gift for combining great warmth with great wit, and the ability to fill a room not just with his presence, but with laughter.
To me, he was my rock. For so many years he was the steady, quiet strength that held our family together — the man who could walk into a room and make the world feel safe again. When life felt uncertain, Alan had a way of grounding us all. He was wise without ever needing to make a show of it, and he had a rare gift for knowing exactly what was needed, and when.
To our daughters Julie and Janine, he was a devoted and wonderful father, and to Richard, a devoted father-in-law — always there, always dependable, always proud. To his grandchildren Ethan & Tia, he was a source of love, warmth and gentle wisdom that they will carry with them always.
Alan leaves behind a family who loved him dearly and a space in all our lives that simply cannot be filled. But we find comfort in knowing that everything he was — his kindness, his strength, his care — lives on in each of us.
He will be missed beyond measure, but never, ever forgotten.
Rest peacefully, my darling. You were, and always will be, our everything.
With all my love, always — Dawn

Dear Alan💙We have been friends for many many years, despite quite a few spaces inbetween, but like all good friends we could pick up where we left off. There are many things that I will be eternally grateful for & most of all for the total stench & support that you showed me when things were very tough in my life but you always managed somehow too maje me smile & laugh too maje me see that there was a small light of hope. But most of all I will be eternally grateful for the love, guidance,& support that yoy & Dawn gave too our girls, I couldn’t have wished for better Godparents for them, you & Dawn went above & beyond the role of any Godparents, for that thankyou both from the bottom of my heart. Now your jokes, those memorable jokes that only you sometimes found amusing, but some were very funny I must admit, I don’t even understand how you remembered them all but you somehow knew when we all needed too laugh. From tbe age of 17 you first came into our lives at our Hotel THE MANDOLIN,together with your Baby yoyr GREEN FORD CORTINA which had more modifications than I care to list, it totally made it stand out from tbe rest of them. I remember fondly our countless discussions with my parents on different topics together with thecountless vodkas etc during the evenings. I remember so well when you bought me a pair of Black Patent shoes & our Dog Mishka chewed bone, I was so scared Tik tell you but we eventually saw the funny side of it. I will Clise this obituary now but one final thing I would like too say, is Thankyou for being you Alan & you will be so missed by so many people, during your life on this earth plane you were a true inspiration too so many people. Try not too tell too many of your jokes in tbe heavenly Realms & Fly High with tbe Angels. R.I.P Dear friend, love forever Maria xxx

Many Condolences too Alan’s wife Dawn, Daughters Janine & Julie:- my thoughts are either you all xxx

Uncle Alan!! There’s so much to say about you, the amazing person and God Father that you always was, along with Auntie Dawn. You both gave us girls and our dad so much throughout all our childhoods. You really went above and beyond what anyone else would do. I have so many happy memories growing up of spending time with you, the little visits on your lunch hour and although we wasn’t always there we always knew when you had been by the smell of your aftershave (Kouros) that would be on the dog from your hands. If I could give a description for that scent it would be pure happiness. You was one of the most caring and funniest of people that ever lived, you could make every story funny and that smile you would give whilst telling the story you would just know that the punch line was coming and would let out a little giggle just before getting to that part. I could sit and listen to you telling your stories over and over again……. I could go on and on speaking about you, but I don’t want to take up the whole of this page 💙

I love you beyond words Uncle Alan and I will ALWAYS keep you in a very special place of my heart. I hope you know just how much you meant to me and how much I loved you. I hope you can rest in forever peace.

Sending so much love and condolences to Auntie Dawn, Julie, Janine, Ethan and Tia. Xxxx

Alan Lionel Dodd - a name that brings back so many fond memories, going back many years. - I first met Alan back in 1968/69 when he ran the 5-minute Car Wash with Frank White on Shakespeare Street in Nottingham City Centre, to the rear of Moons Motors as it was then. I used to serve petrol during my school holidays there, at the age of 15, and got to know this likeable well-dressed chap from the car wash, who drove a very famous Car at the time a VOVLO P1800 Sports Car (made famous by 'The Saint' TV show) which always turned heads. Always a gentleman, Alan was a good friend during the next 20 years, He stored some furniture for me, for some 6 months in his garage when he and Dawn lived on Mapperley Hall Drive, which was a blessing at the time, helping me through a difficult time, and getting me started into shooting together with his friend, Mike Langford and we enjoyed many an evening of fun and laughter. I would sometimes call into see him at the 5-minute Car Wash when it was then on Trent Bridge and he would have his pride and joy Jaguar, sparkling on the forecourt, and we would stand and chat sharing his Gold Leaf Cigarettes. 'A true gent' who's memories will last forever with me and he will very sadly be missed. My thoughts and prayers are with Dawn and his girls at this difficult time. God Bless

I was so sad to hear the news about Alan. I have so many happy childhood memories of times spent with him and you all, holidays to Wales, days out in the Jag and delicious Sunday lunches followed by a fraught game of Cards or Monopoly!! I will be at the service and would be honoured to spend time with you all afterwards to remember him. Sending lots of love to you all during this very difficult time.
