He was my friend mentor and companion during the many years we spent together at Bookends . I will always remember him fondly and recall the staff Christmas dinners we had with thirty rapacious women !

Chick and I both attended Sutton County and we crossed paths several times in the 1990s, due to us both being in publishing. We reconnected seriously through Friends Reunited for which I am grateful, as he was always such amusing and thoughtful company. He will be missed on our monthly Teams chat, but not forgotton

Chick, Bert, Bill and I went through grammar school together, as far as I remember always in the same form. Chick was always great fun to be with, particularly memorable is our school trip to Engleberg in Switzerland in 1959, which we went on. I left school in 1961 and while Bill and I have stayed friends throughout our lives, I lost contact with the others. Until ten years ago when we all got together for the first time in sixty-odd years - a fantastic, memorable evening! I feel privileged to have known Chick again for the last ten years of his life. A great guy, always with a story and fun to be with. He will be missed in our monthly Teams get-together! Rest well Chick.

Chick was the most resolutely cheerful, upbeat and positive individual we knew.
He had a literally inexhaustible fund of anecdotes from the BBC, Radio Times and life in general that were at the same fascinating and hilarious. I don’t think he ever told the same story twice.

Gay and I used to visit and we always had to stay over as there were inevitably several bottles of wine involved and the evening used to fly by with warmth, love and humour. The evening always ended with four inebriated friends playing a decades-old version of Trivial Pursuit and weeping uncontrollably with laughter.

We’ll miss you old pal but always smile at the thought of you.

Gay and Nigel Whiting
