In loving memory of David Swatton who sadly passed away on 15th March 2026.

David was a much loved dad, grandad, brother, friend and colleague. David grew up in Slough, moved to Plymouth as a teenager, and settled in Swindon where he met his beloved wife, Marion. David was a railway enthusiast whose love of engineering took him to railways across the country. He will be greatly missed.

If you are attending David's funeral, dress is informal. You are welcome to attend wearing green (David's favourite colour) or something with a railway theme.

David's happy place was Steam Museum, where he worked for 13 years until retirement. Donations in lieu of flowers can be given for the Friends of Swindon Railway Museum (www.fosrm.org.uk, Registered Charity No. 801555)

I worked with David at Raychem in the 1980's. So sorry to hear of his passing.
It was a pleasure to have known David. One of life's true gentlemen.

David, my Brother-in-Law. I will always remember your endearing quality to tell a very detailed story and hold everyone's attention (I sadly lack this ability, as most people nod off after a few of my sentences!). Your passion for engineering and trains, most particularly, is legendary. You would recall an incident involving some train or other with laser focus and great detail, and make it interesting to lesser mortals. I'm forever grateful to you for showing a genuine interest in my chosen career as a Flight Simulator Engineer, you always asked how I was doing at any time in my work. Thank you.
Thank you for your kindness you always showed to my family (and indeed part of your family); my precious wife (your sister) Sue, and your two nephews (now grown men out in the World) Nick and Chris. Your laughter when sharing a joke or humorous story was infectious, and I'll miss that. Thank you for all those good times we all shared with your family. Trips to Cornwall in particular ... and that famous extended Swatton goodbye!
Rest now, reunited with Marion.
