In loving memory of Philip Roy Jones 'Phil' who sadly passed away on 15th March 2026, aged 83 years.
Born in 1943, Phil's life was a testament to resilience, determination, and quiet strength. Growing up in poverty, he learned early on the value of hard work and perseverance, lessons that would shape not only his own path, but the lives of those around him.
As a young man, he found joy and freedom in swimming, a passion that reflected both his discipline and his love of simple, honest pursuits. Those who knew him in his youth remember his energy, focus, and steady commitment to whatever he set his mind to.
He began his working life as a labourer, but through dedication, grit, and an unwavering work ethic, he steadily rose through the ranks. In time, he became a Managing Director and finally a co-owner of an Engineering Firm. A remarkable achievement that spoke not only of his intelligence and capability, but also of his determination to build a better life.
Family was always at the heart of everything he did. He was a father to five children, three from his first marriage and two stepchildren from his second, each of whom benefitted from his guidance, strength, and example. With the birth of his first child, he moved from London to Bury St Edmunds, beginning a new chapter focused on family life. Later, he settled in Stowmarket with his second wife, where he continued to build a home grounded in care and commitment.
He was a man guided by strong principles. Respect, gratitude, and hard work were not just values he believed in, they were values he lived by every day. He led by example, showing those around him the importance of integrity, humility, and perseverance.
Above all, he will be remembered as a man who worked hard, loved his family deeply, and never forgot where he came from. His legacy can be seen in the lives he shaped, the lessons he passed on, and the quiet strength he instilled in those who knew him.
He will be greatly missed and always remembered.
Phil's Funeral will be held at 2.30pm on Thursday 16th April 2026, at West Suffolk Crematorium, Bury St Edmunds, IP28 6RR.
