It was a chance meeting whilst walking near the Beacon that John invited me to join the U3a Since then I have been to the table tennis sessions most Tuesdays. He was always supportive and gave a good game. A kind gentle man who will be sadly missed

I met John a few times and he struck me as being a modest, polite and real gentleman. He will be sadly missed by his family.

Had some great games of table tennis with this wonderful man. On the many walks he used to lead for the u3a I seemed to be the one to slow him down and request a break so he then started saying" we will stop here to see the view Heather!" A pleasure to have known him.

John was a competitive but fair Table Tennis player...he was kind too....early on when I had hardly played at all I played him at singles and he said I would be a better player than him as I could read the game and adjust....needless to say I am not a better player than him nor would I ever be. I do regret not having the chance to improve and keep testing his theory and proving him wrong! I appreciated his support and kindness and that will always stay with me, and that was the epitome of the kind of person he was.

We had some brilliant walks led by John,he often took his umbrella . His serves at Table tennis were fast and spinning, such a great player. He'll be sorely missed.
