John William Standen (9 Jan 1950 - 20 Jan 2026)

I met John in 1967 when we arrived at Telephone House on our first day at work on the GPO. We went through training and college together. We always got on well together as he did with everybody. He had a good sense of humour and was always up for a laugh even in later years when we used to meet in Sainsburys car park.

I first met John when we were apprentices with the GPO in 1967. He was always up for a laugh and a pleasure to be with.

Losing a loved one is never easy but always remember the happy times spent together. We always loved Johns sense of humour and enjoyed spending time at family gatherings. Jonathan, Michelle and Thomas Creek

Fond memories of John - the best man at my wedding; playing with him in Shrubcote at the age of 5 or 6. Travelling around England in a camper van plus Sweden across Norway and so on.

We will miss JWS having known him since 1966 all the way to 2026 within GPO/BT. A really wonderful and helpful person. We will especially miss his trolley on the bimonthly meetings at Stubbs!

I will miss John having worked with him at BT and, after retirement, organised "pub get togethers" with our former colleagues.
I will miss our telephone conversations which were always filled with humour.
