Thomas Fussell

Tom passed away on January 19th, at the age of 92, after a very full and rewarding life. He leaves 4 children , Roy , Jean , Mike and Clive, 9 grandchildren and 3 Great grand children
His funeral will be held at Semington Crematorium on February 16th at 1:00 PM, followed by a gathering afterwards at Devizes Sports and Social Club.

Please, no flowers; instead, donations may be made to Devizes Lions through A.P. McDonald.

Tom was born on the 24th of February 1933 in Ivy house Devizes, the only son of Percy and Maud Fussell.
He attended Chirton school and Devizes grammar school excelling in mathematics. Tom would help out in the garage and join the business in 1947 doing the accounts.
He did two years of National Service in the RAF working as a mechanic servicing trucks.
In 1954 Tom was instrumental replacing the garage which enabled them to get an Austin dealership.
Mum came for driving lessons in 1956, they started courting and married in 1958 at Marden Church.
Being a successful businessman enabled him to design and build a new home aptly called Speedwell at Chirton very necessary for his now growing family.
He was an active member of Devizes and district motor club, taking part in many rallies and time trials on Salisbury Plain in a Mini Cooper, he won many trophies.
In 1972 he met Basil Wadman and Fussell Wadman and the Peugeot dealership came into being a year later. A growing family and a hectic business life meant caravan holidays for us in the UK and as far as Switzerland. In 1983 he bought a 1904 Peugeot Babe and joined the veteran car club. It took him three years to restore but they enjoyed around 20 years of rallies and the London to Brighton run . He also bought a 1920s Peugeot 201 and a Morgan. They flew on Concorde, travelled on the QE2 , Visited Canada, Australia and many other countries.
He was a treasurer and helper for the Blind Club and The Lions club, later becoming president of the Lions.
He also organised walks for the Friendship circle.
Dad supported many charities including the air ambulance Dorothy house, local hospitals, Julias House, The Starlight Appeal, MND, local church, RNLI, and Alzheimer’s support.
After several years of planning to ensure the continuity of Fussell Wadman he opened the current garage at Hopton. Mum sadly passed away in 2018. Dad enjoyed company and decided to move to Shackleton place a year later. A wise decision when Covid arrived. Here he thoroughly enjoyed the company, meals, Scrabble and made good use of the lovely carers. We’d like to thank the staff at Shackleton for their care and assistance and keeping him as independent as possible.
The family is still growing with three great grandchildren, the latest born days before Dad passed away at Salisbury Hospital.
A kind dad, a well respected gentleman, always determined to help others in the community.
He will be greatly missed by us all.
