In loving memory of Peter Francis Whiffin who sadly passed away on 21st January 2026
Peter was born in Bermondsey on 10th September 1943 to Catherine (Kit) and Frank, and he carried the spirit of his South London roots with him throughout his life.
From a young age, Peter had a deep love of football and proudly represented his district. He also had a natural talent for art and drawing, although he never pursued it as a career.
After leaving school, Peter chose a different path from his father, deciding against a life in the docks and instead beginning a long and dedicated career in London’s insurance world. He started at C.E. Heath before moving to Tindall Riley (Marine Insurance), where he spent an incredible 43 years until his retirement. It was there that he met Tina, and together they became the first Tindall Riley couple to marry — a marriage that lasted 56 happy years. Their story was later echoed by their son Paul and daughter‑in‑law Becky, who also met at Tindall Riley and married in 2009.
Peter was known for his infectious laugh — a warm, unmistakable sound that could fill a room and lift the spirits of everyone around him. His joy was genuine, and people were naturally drawn to his easy warmth and humour.
Family was always at the centre of Peter’s life. He supported his two sons in everything they did, especially in their sporting endeavours, and he was endlessly proud of the men they became. Becoming a grandad brought him even greater joy. Nothing made him happier than seeing or hearing from his three grandchildren — Emma, Sam, and Eli — and celebrating every milestone, big or small.
Peter leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and unwavering devotion to those he held dear. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who knew him.
In accordance with Peter’s wishes, no flowers please. For those who would like to honour his memory, there is a link on this site to his chosen charity - Pancreatic Cancer UK
