Karen was born and brought up in Lincolnshire and moved to various places across the country before finally settling in Norfolk. She has 4 children and now 4 grandchildren. Karen’s passion was horses. In addition to riding herself, she encouraged her children to do the same. She would spend much of her free time looking after as well as riding horses. Karen has had a wide variety of jobs, varying from live-in nanny to shop assistant to cooking and serving school dinners to working on a funfair candyfloss stall. Once the children had grown up, she was able to combine her passion for horses with a job, working at a local horse sanctuary. When she became ill, she tried to continue this passion with her own horse, Kitty but had to gradually step back as the illness progressed. From this point onwards, her passion became her grandchildren. She would see them as much as possible and keep up to date with everything they were doing as well as spending hours on websites looking for clothes for them. When she first became ill, her biggest concern was that she might not get to see her first grandchild. She not only got to see this but also saw three other children born and got to see the oldest two start school. Watching them develop and seeing them reach each birthday and each major event in their lives gave her so much pleasure.

Karen and I had such fun sorting out the donated tack at Redwings. Opening parcels of new donations was like Christmas for us! We had a great day at the Hethel horse show with our Redwings stall, selling the donated tack and meeting lots of lovely people and horses. Karen was such a lovely kind lady and I miss those days.
