Elaine Webb grew up in Peckham with her beloved mum, surrounded by the lively energy of a large family. She was one of eight siblings four girls and four boys and from an early age learned the importance of love, resilience, and looking out for one another, values that stayed with her throughout her life.
Elaine later met Brian, the love of her life, and together they built a family they were immensely proud of. They were blessed with three daughters Claire, Sharon, and Carly who were the centre of Elaine’s world. Her family continued to grow with the arrival of seven cherished grandchildren, three boys and four girls, all of whom she loved deeply and cared for with unwavering devotion.
Elaine and Brian settled in Welling, where Elaine became a familiar and friendly face working at the local Co-op. She later retired to focus fully on raising her family, a role she embraced wholeheartedly. Elaine was truly the life and soul of any gathering. She loved spending time at her local social club, sharing laughs with friends, enjoying a drink or two with Brian, and playing her favourite fruit machine moments that brought her great joy.
In February 2025, Elaine was diagnosed with breast cancer and began chemotherapy in April. Sadly, in May she suffered a severe reaction to the treatment and was placed into an induced coma. She spent three weeks at St Thomas’ Hospital before finally being able to return home to her family. In July, as a result of the chemotherapy, Elaine required a pacemaker and was diagnosed with heart failure. Despite everything she endured, Elaine continued to show incredible strength and determination.
In September 2025, Elaine underwent a mastectomy, and in October she received the wonderful news that she was all clear. Tragically, her journey did not end there. In November, Elaine suffered a fall and broke her hip, leading to further surgery at Queen Elizabeth Hospital followed by rehabilitation at Queen Mary’s. During this time, Elaine’s health began to decline, and in December it was confirmed that the cancer had spread to her brain.
True to her spirit, Elaine fought every step of the way. She bravely attended five consecutive days of radiotherapy and remained determined right up until Christmas Eve, when she sadly developed a chest infection. Elaine passed away peacefully on Sunday 4th January, surrounded by her loving family.
Elaine was a much-loved lady with a heart of gold. She would do anything for anyone, without hesitation, and her kindness, warmth, and larger-than-life personality touched everyone who knew her. She will be deeply missed not only by her family, but by her many friends whose lives she brightened.
Elaine’s funeral will take place on Thursday 29th January at 2:30pm at Eltham Crematorium. Following the service, family and friends are warmly invited to join in celebrating Elaine’s life with a drink at The Bellegrove Social Club in Welling, a place where Elaine spent many happy times surrounded by those she loved.
