The most loveliest neighbours we could have ever asked for. My parents moved in even before I was born and I am now 30, they’ve watched our whole family grow and they’ve brought so much comfort to us, being there for us all and there to help us (usually with me getting locked out and going over for a cuppa or the spare key) 😂 In our frequent chats, Mike told me how he knew my mum was pregnant with me even before my mum knew, then gone on to see me bring my own little ones into this world. We miss seeing them daily, Mike on his daily walks, they were both very loved neighbours that felt like family to the whole street. It brings me comfort knowing they were never without each other. Rest in paradise to them both ❤️

We first met Mike 2008 when looking at our future home nextdoor to Mike and Marion. Mike told us it was a good buy and we'd be very happy there, which he continued to remind us of that for the next 16 years! 🤣 During those 16 years we got to know the lovely Marion, often exchanging baked goods over the fence and laughing at her cheeky comments. The only person we knew that could keep Mike in check and stop him talking. Many a time we heard mike say 'just one more story' which was swiftly followed by Marion saying 'oh leave them alone'. Such a wise, kind & lovely couple full of life & laughter. We helped each other stay sane through the covid lockdowns & they were truly the best neighbours we could of wished to have had. Sorely missed, but rightly not apart for long.

It was an absolute honour and pleasure to have known these two lovely but very different people. I always remember being treated so nicely when I called for Alan to go out to “play” (how very old school), as were they both.

I have so many memories of being in their home as a very small boy right through to my married life with my own children. We of course enjoyed their company in our home too, Mainly when Michael was working, he was the “best” carpenter I’ve ever known, my daughters also got to really like them both over that period.

One of the funniest ones was when I was invited to Sunday Tea, I think I was still a junior at school.

We were almost ready to sit down with Alan and Juliette putting the final treats on the table, when Alan cut a slice of cheese and ate it. “Mum, Mum Alan’s cutting the cheese” Juliette shouted out, Alan and I laughed so much, he could barely say “I was just putting a straight edge on it Mum”.

“Stop bickering, we have a guests” Marion said, “who?” said Juliette, “Mark” she replied. They then both came into the room and Michael was wearing his infectious, wide, knowing smile.

At that point I realised that I would always be welcome in their home and I was!

God Bless you both
Michael and Marion (Mr & Mrs Sparkes)

❤️
