In loving memory of Mary Butler who sadly passed away on 2nd December 2025, aged 78 years.

Mary was born in Ferbane, Co. Offaly, Ireland, on 19 July 1947, and grew up sharing the family home with her sister, Rita, and brother, Kieran. After finishing school she moved to England, joining the NHS, first in general nursing, quickly progressing into midwifery, and later serving as a clinical nurse specialist in oncology. Over more than forty years of dedicated service to the NHS, she guided and comforted countless families with compassion and professionalism.

She met Derek at a party in 1970, and they married on 23 September 1972. Their daughter, Georgina, arrived in 1975. Mary was predeceased by her beloved husband, Derek, in May 2025.

Mary will be remembered for her caring spirit, her devotion to her family, and the patients in her care. She took a genuine interest in everyone she met, and her kind heart often meant she went above and beyond to support others.

In her final days, Mary was cared for with the same compassion she gave to others by the team at Pinehurst Rest Home in Boxhill, Dorking. The family extends their heartfelt thanks to the staff at Pinehurst for their kindness and support

Donations in Mary's memory would be gratefully received for 'Dementia UK' and may be made online via the link on this page.

Flowers may be sent c/o John Weir Funeral Directors, 25 New Road, Chatham, Kent, ME4 4QJ for 10 am on the day of the service.

In memory of a devoted and loving wife and mother to Derek, and to you, George.

May she be at peace and reunited with her beloved Derek.

George, know you are surrounded by the love and support of all you family and friends, and that you carry that same love for life and people, as your Mum and Dad have done throughout theirs.

Much love to you.

I had the pleasure of looking after Mary and Derek during Derek's year long tenure as Mayor of Maidstone. They were the most wonderful people to spend time with. Caring, cheerful, and great fun. They were the nicest people you could hope to meet and universally popular with everyone they came into contact with. They are much missed by all of us at Maidstone Borough Council and the wider Maidstone community.
