BIOGRAPHY
Marion was born in 1926, the youngest of seven children – three boys and four girls. All of the girls attended Parkfields Cedars Grammar School, the only quartet of sisters ever to do so.
Marion returned to Parkfields as a teacher after gaining a degree and post-graduate teaching qualification at Leicester University, and subsequently taught at other schools in and around Derby, including Ockbrook School and Derby High School for Girls.
In 1962, after gaining her Master of Education degree, Marion was appointed Senior Lecturer in Education at Bishop Lonsdale College of Education in Derby, where she worked until taking early retirement in 1979.
She then embarked on a very active retirement with two of her sisters with whom she shared a large house in Borrowash. They travelled widely at home and abroad, and indulged in their individual hobbies, which in Marion’s case included local history and gardening. She was the author of ‘Derbyshire Village Schools in the Nineteenth Century’ and a series of self-published booklets on Borrowash and Ockbrook.
