In loving memory of Jeanie Howorth who sadly passed away on 5th January 2016. Wife of the late Roger and loving step-mother of Roger and Jane.

Jeanie Howorth 02-04-1930 - 05-01-2016
Jeanie was born in Motherwell Lanarkshire Scotland in 1930. One of 7 children, her father was a coal miner. Times were tough for a miner’s family before the Second World War – food and money were scarce but there was never any shortage of laughter or noise with 6 little girls and 1 boy in the house.
Jeanie was very poorly in hospital for 4 years with tuberculosis but she was one of the lucky ones and survived, in spite of being made to sleep outside on the hospital veranda in the sometimes very cold night air.
At 19 Jeanie married her first husband and they went to live in Uganda.
Sadly the marriage broke down and Jeanie met and married Roger in Brighton, and was happy to tell anyone who would listen that she inherited 2 children from the marriage, Roger Jr and Jane.
In 1964 Jeanie together with her husband Roger and Jane went to live in Kuwait for 2 years where Roger worked on the building of a much needed power station.
Jeanie enjoyed the social life and the warm sunshine in Kuwait and very soon their two years were up and they left for home. Instead of flying back to the UK they decided to make the journey by car. A trip that took 6 weeks to complete – travelling through several countries and encountering many adventures on the way
Jeanie and her husband spent many years living in London – and in 1989 they decided to retire to West Moors.
After Roger died in 2007 Jeanie stayed in West Moors continuing to enjoy shopping trips to Poole with her friend Mary and going to the local community centre club on a Tuesday. She moved to Christchurch to live with Clive and Jane in 2013 and spent nearly 3 happy years surrounded by great-grandchildren and many family visitors and friends. She always enjoyed family holidays to Portugal although there were signs during her last visit – in May 2015 – of a decline in her health and well-being. As Jeanie became less able to move around she would say she had ‘Lazyitis’ and prefer to stay at home rather than go for rides in the car or visit people.
Right to the end Jeanie showed true Scottish stoicism and never once complained of feeling unwell.
She will be greatly missed.
