Peter Michael Westerby (26 Dec 1944 - 23 Nov 2025)

I was only very recently informed of Peter’s passing and therefore was unable to attend his funeral.

I understand it was extremely well attended and provided a moving and fitting celebration of his life.

I had the privilege of working as Peter’s secretary for approximately five years and both my children attended Bywell Junior School. He was a very compassionate, empathetic Headteacher and friend, who will be missed.

No amount of money is big enough to pay for the loving care Peter and all the family received. A wondrous place.

I’m so sad & sorry to read of the passing of Peter.
I worked at Bywell Juniors in the 90’s as senior lunchtime supervisor & I also did some work with a pupil with special needs.
Peter was a lovely man, kind & thoughtful to both his staff & pupils.
I will always hold fond memories of my time working at Bywell Juniors.

I too was extremely fortunate to have worked for Peter as an ETA.He was one of the most wonderful,thoughtful considerate men I have ever met.You knew you could always speak to him about anything anytime and he always had the right answer.Condolences to all of his family.

I was fortunate to have worked for Peter at Bywell, I was the very first ETA employed in 1992, he was such a lovely kind and warm hearted man who cared for his staff and pupils dearly. He was a great comfort to me when I lost my mum always ready with a kind word and a hug something I’ve never forgotten. Condolences to Carolyn, John & David he always spoke fondly of you all.

So many happy memories ovèr 45 years of friendship, walking in the Alps and nearer home, Peter loved planning our trips off, and putting the world to rights over a bottle (or three). Our thoughts and love to Carolyn, John, David and all their families

Peter was a valued colleague who gave me friendship and support during the challenging early days of my first headship. My thoughts are with his family.

Such sad news, Mr Westerby was my headteacher at Bywell Junior school in the late 1990s. RIP 😞 x
