In loving memory of Doreen Ann Hopkins who sadly passed away on 16th November 2025
Mum to Nikki, Grandma to Dan and Great Grandma to Millie, her family was the most important thing to her.
Doreen was a beautiful person inside and out, always putting others before herself. She always had a twinkle in her eye and a great sense of humour, right until the end. She loved her animals and when she was well, there was nothing she loved better than to babysit Nikki's dogs
Born in the beautiful Penrith, Doreen moved to Nottingham with her mum, dad and brother Ian when she was was a young girl. She lived at Home Farm at Brackenhurst in Southwell and went to school in Newark.
She went to catering school and met her husband Nick while working at the White Post Inn. They married and had son Nicholas, who unfortunately died very young from a heart condition. A year later, Nicola (Nikki) was born.
Doreen, Nick and Nikki moved to Ramsdale while Nikki was still young and this became their family home. They were joined there by Doris and Bertie, Nicks mum and Dad.
Nick and Doreen loved catering for parties and entertaining and Ramsdale became the hub of many a social occasion. Following Nick's death when he was only in his early 40s, Doreen went too work as a cook in nursing homes. It was during that time, some years later, she met her second husband Maurice, and moved to Mapperley. Unfortunately, after only a few years of marriage, Maurice also passed away and Doreen finally settled at Woodthorpe Manor Nursing home as cook until she retired.
After retiring, Doreen moved back to Ramsdale, where Nikki now lived, to live next to her daughter and remained there until June of this year when she moved to Buddleia House Care Home.
She loved travelling and had some fantastic holidays with her brother Ian, especially the 3 month World Cruise that they both went on.
For 18 years, Doreen fought a very long and hard battle against Alzheimer's disease, but during that time, with the support of her family and good friends she still lived a very full life.
She will be very much missed by all who knew her.
A celebration of Doreen's life will be held at Redhill Chapel, Redhill Cemetery, Redhill, Arnold, Nottingham. NG5 8NT, on Friday 19th December at 10.30am, followed by a burial which you are welcome to attend
Doreen would have loved for you to be there to say goodbye and you are also welcome to join the family afterwards at The Admiral Rodney, Main Street, Calverton. NG14 6FB
Confirmation of attendance would be appreciated to facilitate catering.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Alzheimer's Research.
