Pam was gracious, kind, engaging and always welcomed us when we attended tastings of Maderia wines. It was a treat to taste the latest D'Olivera offerings, as well as the old favourites, especially when Pam conducted proceedings in her gentle and inclusive manner.
It was she that demonstrated to me the difference between old Maderias fortified with cane distillate, as opposed to post Portugal joining the EU Maderias, when producers were compelled to use grape distillate.
Like her, I preferred the added character that cane imparted.
Her knowledge and experiences of the Maderia wine world were always a treat to listen to.
I only experienced the'tip of the icebergh' of this lovely lady's character, but it was an honour none the less to have known her.

So many wonderful memories of Pam, who we first met through our shared love of Madeira (the wine and the island!). A visit to Higher Tristram, a cup of tea and a glass of bual used to be one of our highlights of a holiday in Cornwall.
