In loving memory of Sharon Wignall who sadly passed away on 12th October 2025
Life story of my mum – Sharon Helen Wignall
My mum, Sharon Helen Wignall, was born in Bexley on 3rd June 1973. She passed away on 12th October 2025 at Darent Valley Hospital after a long and incredibly brave five-year battle with cancer.
She was the daughter of Janet and Harry, a loving sister to Simon, sister-in-law to Sam, and a proud auntie to Macy, Ruby and Charlie. And of course, she was my mum — and being my mum was the role she loved most in the world. (Her words exactly)
Her Childhood & Early Life
Mum grew up in Bexleyheath, surrounded by lots of friends who all lived close by. They spent most of their time together at the youth club, always having fun and getting into mischief. School wasn’t exactly her favourite place… she attended sometimes! My Nan would often spot her around town when she was definitely supposed to be in class. Even back then, she had a big personality, a cheeky sense of humour, and she liked to do things her own way.
Mum has always been extremely close to Simon, they are best friends always were and always will be, and this will be conveyed I’m sure in Simon’s eulogy!
Adult Life
Mum never married, but the greatest moment of her life — as she told me many times — was the day she had me, on 5th March 2001. From that day on we were inseparable. She wasn’t just my mum, she was my best friend.
She worked in the family cleaning business that my grandad started in the 1980s, and she was brilliant at it. But she also liked to prove people wrong — especially her brother! So she switched careers for a year to become a 999 ambulance call handler, just to show him she could do any job she set her mind to. And of course, she smashed it.
Her Personality
Mum was truly one of a kind. She lit up every room she walked into and instantly made people feel welcome. She could make anyone laugh — even on the worst days. She always seemed to have the answer to everything and gave the best advice, whether you wanted to hear it or not!
She was unbelievably kind and so, so brave. During her illness she never once gave up hope. Even when she was suffering, she still cared more about everyone else than herself. She had a strong mindset throughout her whole life, and I always admired that about her.
The amount of friends who adore her says everything about what a special person she was.
Hobbies & Interests
Mum loved going on holiday with her friends and family — always making memories and making sure every moment was special. She was all about making sure everyone was happy.
She also loved reading books — especially ones filled with crime, gangs and drugs. But above everything else, her favourite thing in life was the people she loved. Her family and friends were everything to her.
The Legacy She Leaves With Me
Mum taught me to be brave and strong, to think before I act, and to never lower my standards for anyone. She showed me what courage looks like, and what it means to love with your whole heart.
Even when she was so ill, she was still worrying about other people — that was just who she was. Selfless, caring, and full of love.
She was the bravest person I have ever known, and I’ll spend my life trying to live the way she taught me to. Our bond was like no other — we understood each other completely. She wasn’t just my mum — she was my world.
I will miss her every day, but I will carry her love, her strength, and her kindness with me always.
