In loving memory of Danny Hall who sadly passed away on 4th September 2025

Danny will be remembered as a kind, generous and funny man.

Born in Bulwell, Nottingham in 1944 to parents Harry and Lily, Danny was a cheeky lad who struggled to connect with school so opted for a life of adventure instead. Growing up in post war Britain wasn’t easy and in his early 20s, Danny enlisted into the army as a Grenadier Guard. Protecting the Royal family at Windsor Castle was a great posting but he would eventually find home in the Guards Independent Parachute Company, specialising in path-finding behind enemy lines. This took Danny on exciting expeditions all around the world, serving in exotic places like Hong Kong, Malaysia and Kenya; as well as places closer to home such as France and Northern Ireland. Although Danny left the special forces in the early 1970s, he would always be a Para at heart and would live by their values until his premature death.

Back in Nottingham, Danny met Janet at the Palais Nightclub and married in 1971 They would be together for 49 happy years, living in Hucknall, Nottingham before Janet sadly passed away in 2020. Danny was a family man, always guiding and providing for his two sons and three granddaughters.

After leaving the army in 1971, Danny became an engineer for British Telecom working in both the residential and business sectors. He was a down to earth, likeable person who always had time for people. Danny was a talented engineer and a team player. He made several life long friends at BT and saw them regularly for beers in the Roebuck in Nottingham.

In retirement, Danny would continue his adventures with long distance walking challenges with sons Chris and Steve. They would go onto complete many national trails including the Coast to Coast and Offa’s Dyke Paths. Danny also enjoyed reading and was a member at the Bromley House Private Library in Nottingham. He loved architecture and history and could often be seen wandering around church yards, finding interesting graves. In his younger days he enjoyed playing squash and was a keen fisherman. He was a lifetime supporter of Nottingham Forest and never missed a ball of an international cricket match on the TV. Danny loved holidays with Janet, teasing his grandchildren, having a few pints of real ale with friends and an overly spiced hot curry with his boys. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

Danny died suddenly at home on 4th September. Instead of flowers, he would have wanted any donations to go to the Nottingham Hospice, who kindly supported Janet, day and night in her final days.

I met Dan in 1976 as a very naive 17 year old "youth in training". BT was GPO in those days, different times! I have known Dan, off and on, ever since and have shared many a pint of real ale. He was mischievous, funny, fun to be with, confident and kind. He taught me much about the real world! It was a massive shock and upsetting to hear of his sudden death. Condolences to his sons Steve and Chris and to the rest of his family. RIP me duck.

Rest in Peace, Danny. What a terrible shock to lose such a dear friend. I knew Danny for over 50 years and frequently teamed up with him for work after we left BT. Most working days ended with a pint! Ten years ago when we decided to pack it all in, we got a handful of ex colleagues together for a monthly met up. Sometimes this group can be 20 odd in number. Danny will be sorely missed but us all. Utmost sympathy to his boys and families.

I have known Danny for a long time although there have been gaps in us meeting because of family commitments and living miles apart. He had not changed in all those years , very relaxed and a great personality. Danny and Janet were godparents to my daughter Karen and even after losing Janet he still kept in contact.
In later years four cousins and partners met yearly for a weekend break, which we all enjoyed and Danny always had a tale to tell.

I will always remember Danny as a lovely person who will be greatly missed .

My childhood is filled with memories of Uncle Danny. Weekends, Christmases, bonfire nights and holidays always included him. Summer holidays meant adventures to theme parks with him, full of fun and laughter.

Some memories always make me smile, like the night in Blackpool when our tent blew away in the gales and Uncle Danny spent hours trying to fix it while we all slept through the chaos. Or the bonfire nights when he’d light the fireworks far too close for comfort. There was no such thing as health and safety back in the 80s!

I echo everything that has been said about him: caring, funny, unpredictable, a true family man and completely one of a kind. He was someone you could always depend on, and his witty, thoughtful birthday card messages will be so missed.

Rest in peace, Uncle Danny. With love,
Clare, Geoff, Elena and Laura xxxx
