In Loving Memory of James "Joe" Walsh
17th July 2025 | Aged 84

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of James "Joe" Walsh, who left us peacefully on 17th July 2025, aged 84. Joe was deeply loved and will be profoundly missed by his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Born into a lively household as one of seven children, Joe grew up surrounded by the warmth of four older sisters, an older brother, and a younger sister. Though predeceased by four of his siblings, their memory remained close to his heart throughout his life.

Joe’s early years in Ireland were marked by talent and passion. A gifted Gaelic footballer, he was named Player of the Year in both 1964 and 1965, and later honoured with a place in the GAA Hall of Fame in the early 2000s. Alongside his sporting achievements, he apprenticed as a farrier with his father, worked as a forester, and found joy in amateur theatre with the local dramatic society.

After moving to England, Joe settled first in Bristol, working in a food factory and then as a building labourer. He later moved to London, where he continued in construction and met the love of his life, Agnes, at an Irish Dance Hall. They married and built a life together, raising two daughters.

Joe’s career in construction flourished. Through hard work and determination, he rose from labourer to foreman, site manager, and eventually construction manager, overseeing major commercial projects across London, the South East, and occasionally the North of England.

Though he left Gaelic football behind, Joe remained competitive—becoming a champion darts player and later a devoted golfer. After retiring in the early 2000s (on his second attempt), he embraced gardening with the same passion he brought to everything in life.

The passing of his beloved wife two years ago was a profound loss. Though he carried on with determination and resilience, moving closer to one of his daughters, the absence of Agnes was deeply felt. Joe spent his final days in comfort, surrounded by care, and passed away peacefully after a brief illness.

Joe is survived by his two daughters and their partners, two sisters, and 15 nieces and nephews spread across Australia, England, Ireland, and the USA. His legacy lives on in the stories, laughter, and love he leaves behind.
