In loving memory of Susan Buttle (nee Gentle) who sadly passed away on 20th July 2025.

Susan was born on 6th October 1943 to Margaret & Cecil Gentle and spent her formative years on Barcroft Road in Newsome. Three years later she was joined in the family by Peter a much loved brother. The family later moved to Crosland Moor, living on Cromarty Avenue.

Fairly early on in life it was discovered she had congenital scoliosis, but that never stopped her doing anything for over 80 years.

Mum attended Primrose Hill School which she loved. After leaving school, Susan commuted to Leeds to study gentleman's tailoring - she was the only girl in the class and not letting gender get in her way! After graduating she worked at Pickups in Huddersfield.

Susan married Alan in 1971 and moved to Honley. Despite being told at hospital as a teenager that she wouldn't be able to have children, she didn't let that stop her giving birth to Darren in April 1973 and then Janine in March 1976. She treat anything medical with some scepticism after that!

Susan worked from home doing tailoring jobs while Darren & Janine were at school, but latterly worked at Xavier in Birchencliffe and at Huddersfield Technical college teaching the next generation of tailors.

Fiercely strong and independent, Susan finally ran out of puff 20th July 2025, gently and peacefully slipping away to join Alan and her parents. She'll be up there now looking after everyone and making sure they are all okay and that their all their vestments are perfectly tailored & fit well.

We have lived next door to Susan and Alan (who I sadly missed) for 54 years and we have seen our children grow up together. We have lovely memories of parties, bonfire nights and conversations almost every day. You are both missed xxx

I am heartbroken to hear about the passing of dear Susan. Please accept my deepest condolences.
Susan was a truly remarkable woman—kind to everyone she met, yet fiercely independent in the most inspiring way. She carried herself with quiet strength and unwavering grace, and her presence left a lasting impression on all who knew her. Whether it was a comforting word, a thoughtful gesture, or her fearless pursuit of what she believed in, Susan had a way of making the world better just by being in it.
She will be deeply missed, but her spirit will live on in the many lives she touched

A wonderful auntie! So many good memories of family Christmases and birthdays together. I was thrilled that you made my wedding dress back in 2005 - this was such a special time discussing patterns and popping around for fittings. Over the last few years, having you over for Christmas dinner and games of Chase the Ace have made the time so special. Bless you ‘flower’ - much love, always xxx
