My Mum & Mary’s sister Mena were lifelong friends as I am with Mena’s daughter Carole, Mary’s niece. I met ‘Aunty Mary’ during her visits to Perth, Western Australia. She was always great fun and a loving and staunch supporter of her extended family. She meant the world to my dearest friend Carole, who was my bridesmaid and she bridesmaid to me. RIP Aunty Mary; a life, gracefully lived.

Aunty Mary has always been a major figure in my life. My mother's only sister she helped take care of me in my early days from 18 months of age when I lived at Grandma's. She often told me she used to pretend she was my mother.
This close bond continued over the years after my family moved to Australia.
Aunty kept in touch faithfully with letters phone calls and cards at important times
She and her husband Uncle Viv visited Australia and stayed with us and Aunty also came to help look after my mother when she was dying . She came again on her own after Uncle Viv passed away . We all begged her to stay as we loved her very much. However she would never leave her home as she felt close to Uncle Viv there.
Aunty was a very strong and capable woman having a long career as secretary to the Chief of Police in Nottingham and then Private Secretary to the Sherrif of Nottingham until her retirement.
She also enjoyed opera singing and had a wonderful soprano voice in her earlier years.
I will always miss her voice in our long phone conversations. Its very hard to accept she is no longer here. She always told me to remember she loved me very much and always prayed for me and my dogs. Aunty adored animals as much as people.
Dear Aunty Mary rest in peace with Uncle Viv. You are now where you wanted to be.
You will never be forgotten.
Your neice
Carole

I shall always treasure the memories of Aunty Mary and her beloved, late husband (and my godfather) Uncle Viv. They were an indelible connection to my late parents and Aunty Mary’s death severs the last, physical link. While her family in Australia were not with her in the last years, our gratitude is extended her amazing neighbours, the Alvi Family, who delivered so much care and love to Aunty Mary and allowed her to remain in her home until the end. My condolences to them and especially to my brother, Graham, whose connection with Aunty Mary was so strong and deep. She will be missed by those who knew and loved her. Nick.
