I first met Glyn, Cedra, Alan and Barrie probably in 1966 in connection with the Youth Temperance Council when they lived in Newport. A lovely selfless family who devoted their lives to others.
I witnessed the boys turning into young adults over the years at Eastwood Grange and Cliff College.
Having dipped into FB I have learned what a lovely man Alan was who has left his mark on the community and made a difference. I know he will be sorely missed. Richard and I send our love and sincere condolences to Helen and Elliot and all the family. Thank you Elliot for that wonderful tribute to your dad - the kindest most honourable gentle man.

So, so sad to say goodbye to Alan Richards, Chair of HCAT. It was an absolute honour to know him. A true gentleman. Kind, principled, wise, humble and caring are but a few adjectives to describe him and everything he did he did with such humility. Alan committed his life to making the communities close to him better places. He gave so much back to the education sector, in so many different governance roles in numerous different organisations. If we all took our civic duty as seriously as Alan the world would be a considerably better place. I am honoured to have been able to call him a friend. Rest in peace Alan. ❤️
