Ann Marie Pointer (16 Aug 1957 - 7 Jun 2025)
Priscilla Bacon Lodge & Foyle Women's Aid
Funeral Director
In loving memory of Ann Marie Pointer who sadly passed away on 7th June 2025.
Ann Marie was a beautiful, effervescent, energetic, creative and welcoming human being, born in Derry in Northern Ireland - with a lifelong love of learning and never afraid to try something new. This was demonstrated in her range of interests, which included Dancing, Running, Swimming, Walking, Acting, Script Writing, Music, Theatre Shows, Cinema, Yoga, Cooking and Knitting.
As mentioned, Ann Marie had a lifelong love of learning which started at Thornhill Grammar School in Derry. That passion continued throughout her life, which resulted in her gaining a Science Degree through the Open University, obtaining Qualified Teacher Status at University of East Anglia and learning different languages through evening classes, with her favourite being, Italian.
Ann Marie had a variety of jobs in her career, starting as a Senior Librarian in the Derry Central Library and then going onto working in Government Scientific Laboratories for many years and then changing her career and becoming a qualified Teacher. Ann Marie taught at all levels of education from Primary, Secondary, 6-Form, Special Needs and through to English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL), showing her versatility.
Ann Marie also offered her skills through voluntary work over the years, where she positively touched the lives of many people in charities such as a Samaritans, Leeway, Home Instead, and co-founded the charity, Asperger Norfolk, for autistic children and adults.
As a mother, Ann Marie had three sons, but was second mother to many who were regular visitors to the family home.
Ann Marie was truly beautiful human being, so full of life and great company, who will be sadly missed by all who knew her.
Ann Marie`s Funeral Mass will take place at St.George`s Catholic Church on Thursday 3rd July at 11.00am.
For those who cannot attend in person, the Funeral Mass will be streamed live from the St.George`s Catholic Church website and recorded at https://upew.uk.
