In loving memory of Dr Allan Sutton BDS, LDS RCS who sadly passed away suddenly on 8th May 2025 after a spinal operation on a slipped disc.

Allan's funeral will be held on Friday 20th June at 11.30am at St Mary and St Lambert Church, Stonham Aspal, IP14 6AF. And afterwards at White Lodge, The Street, Stonham Aspal, IP14 6AL.
Please park in the Village Hall car park (next to the church) for the ceremony.

Allan was born in Newport, Shropshire, brother to Stephen and was educated at Adams Grammar School.
He studied Dental Surgery at Barts, St Georges and the Royal Dental Hospital of London University before joining an NHS practice in Norwich.
His first wife Hilary sadly passed away, leaving him 2 sons, Patrick and Tom,and a daughter Lizzie, who recently passed away. Patrick has 2 daughters. Lara and Ellie.
Allan has lived at Stonham Aspal for 25 years with his wife Penny, a former classmate at RDH. They have run student houses in Norwich and were awarded Landlord of the Year 2013. They look after a delightful black Labrador, Bramble, retired from the Guide Dogs charity. They are very impressed with the caring Guide Dogs Charity and would like donations to be made to Guide dogs for the Blind instead of flowers please.
Allan was a kind, considerate, polite person, with a smile and pleasing manner. He had a vast knowledge of history and loved exploring ruins and castles. A keen angler, he will be sorely missed by everyone who knew him. Thank you to the many people who have sent such lovely messages of support.

Known Allan over 50 years since RDH, flat together, family holidays & canal boat weekends. Shared his ups & downs of loosing Hilary & Lizzy, but he was very proud of Paddy & Tom. Found happiness with Penny. So pleased I visited them both only 6 months ago & saw they were really enjoying their retirement.
Great friend, missed by all. Paul & Joan

It was a pleasure to know Alan. Agreed fully with any grumpy old man comments he made. We shared the same angst. Mostly remember a gentle man xx

  • My first meeting with Allan was to help him cross the road during our first meeting and conversation outside the Ten Bells in the summer 2023, I had the pleasure of meeting Allan on several occasions as he walked with Bramble as I worked outside renovating the pub. We had nice conversations and I thoroughly enjoyed our chats. He was a gentleman of the first order. I'm sorry for the loss and that I couldn't get the pub opened fast enough for Allan and Penny to visit together as both expressed an interest visit when opened. RIP Allan

Alan and I used to chat whenever we bumped into each other in the village walking our dogs, and it was never a quick good morning, we would have a long conversation, and I used to look forward to seeing him, he was such a lovely kind and intelligent man. Sending love to Penny and all of his family x

  • Thank you Julie. He often mentioned you. He loved his village walks, with Hogan and then with Bramble, even when his sight was failing.
