Dail Whiting was a true daughter of Wateringbury. She was born here in 1943, and after a few years away returned with her new husband Mike in late 1976. They have lived here ever since.
Other than family and home, her two passions were her garden, often complimented on by visitors, and history.
This passion for history and her vast knowledge of Wateringbury people from her childhood, led her to engage in some extensive research and write two editions of her book, the second of which was titled “Wateringbury In the Steps Of George Newman, and Beyond.”
She was also a regular contributor to John Gilham's “Wateringbury Remembered” and became the 'go to' person for anyone inquiring about Wateringbury and it's inhabitants.
Dail also produce booklets on Wateringbury’s WWI, and later WWII soldiers, which she then donated to Wateringbury Church.
She will be remembered as one of the most significant Wateringbury historians of recent years, and for her outgoing and captivating personality.
Dail was born, had a happy childhood, and spent the vast majority of her life in Wateringbury. It was where she spent her happiest days and where she found contentment. Few can have a greater claim to be recognised as one of 'Wateringbury’s own'. It seems right therefore, that at the end of her life, she is laid to rest in the only place she ever called home.
