In loving memory of Shirley Ansel West who sadly passed away on 19th April 2025.
She grew up in Sittingbourne in the 1930s and 40s, but when she moved to London her life began to really grow and her potential take shape. After answering an ad for a shorthand typist , she found herself moving from working in a small car dealership to film giants 20th Century Fox. Working in publicity she went on to become publicity manager - a rarity at the time for a woman.
After giving birth to her daughter, Helen, she returned to Sittingbourne to be with her parents.
Shirley loved the world of entertainment, dancing, acting and being part of a group playing music.
Her story was so varied and peppered with extraordinary moments- like winning a 20th Century Fox Doris Day lookalike competition and going to Hollywood to spend a week like a movie star and meeting Doris.
She loved socialising and travelling, but most of all she loved life and people.
Mum, wife, Nan, Auntie and friend. Whatever our connection, we were so lucky to have known, loved and been loved by her. She is so desperately missed, but her light still burns brightly.
