In loving memory of Norah Balmer who sadly passed away on 27th February 2025
Born in Wallasey on 19th December 1930 to Michael and Lily Cain, Norah was one of 10 children. Brought up at 37 Ivy Lane, Moreton, Norah had memories of the war and the impact it had on her schooling. Leaving school at 14 she initially worked in a greengrocers before starting work in domestic service. She met her husband to be, Dennis, whilst he was serving in the RAF at West Kirkby. Married in 1951, they spent a period in W Germany, before Dennis left the RAF and they settled in Wheatley Lane, where Dennis had lived with his parents. In 1970 Dennis and Norah moved to Burnley where they bought and ran Fernhill Hotel. They moved to Burnsall North Yorkshire in 1981, where they bought the greater portion of Hartlington Hall, once again offering overnight guest accommodation in an idyllic setting. They moved to Out Rawcliffe to follow a dream of a cottage restoration, whilst living onsite in a caravan. Finally moving to Somerset in 1998 they spent a further 24 years together, celebrating their 70th wedding anniversary, before Dennis pre-deceased her in 2022. Norah is lovingly remembered by her children Jeannette, Geoffrey and Gordon, daughters in law Ellen and Michelle, 7 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.

Loving memory of our Aunt Nora. Wonderful memories of visits to aunt Nora and uncle Denis even if they did make myself and Doreen go to Sunday school when we stayed 😘. Always so kind she will be so missed. Our thoughts are with her family. So sorry I can’t make it down there on the 31st. Peter, Doreen and Stephen.
