It is with great sadness that we have to announce Jon Battell, died peacefully yet unexpectedly at home on Thursday 20th February surrounded by his family.

Born 20th January 1956 to parents Aubrey and Dot, Jon was known for being a devoted husband, dad and grandad, with his family being at the heart of everything he did. With his love of darts, fishing and Chelsea fc, he lived with a smile on his face. A humble, honest soul, nothing was ever too much trouble, giving his time to anyone in need. Jon will be lovingly remembered by all those that knew him.

Jon's funeral service will be held at Vinters Park Crematorium on Tuesday 25th March at 11.45am. Close family and friends are welcome. Please keep floral tributes to just close family, however charitable donations are welcome to Kent Air Ambulance, of whom Jon was a keen supporter. All are then welcome to join us for a celebration of Jon's life, which will be held after the service at Snodland Town FC, Paddlesworth Road, Snodland, ME6 5DP.

Much more than a father,
Much more than a dad,
This poem is here to show the joy you brought and not to make you sad.

You'd do that stupid little jig and dance around the place,
You'd jiggle your teeth up and down and pull a funny face,
You'd play fight with the boys and get "the look" from mum,
And then you'd pull that innocent face and act all surprised and dumb!

The weekly stories about your performance at darts,
Much more about Phil Collins than naff classcial music and fine arts,
The triple shot of whisky just before bed,
But never by him teachers please, a bottle of famous grouse instead!

Then there's your favourite, your mighty Chelsea fc,
The blue and white marching on for all the world to see.
And whilst in our teams we may not agree,
The one thing that made you prouder, was your beautiful family.

And for you dad, please do not fear,
The legacy you leave behind is extremely clear.
Family is at you heart and we will keep this strong,
Hard work dedication and the love you gave, we will keep forever long.

Much more than a father,
Much more than a dad.
I couldn't be prouder to have called you mine,
I've never been so glad.

There are so many great memories that include you, family gatherings, camping trips, neighbour's, dog sitter to name a few. With every memory you were always laughing, nothing was ever too much trouble for you. Your chilled out nature will be missed by us all and even your occasional sarcasm 😉. You will stay in our hearts forever.

Where to even start...

You were the most incredible man and the best grandad a girl could ever ask for! To being my personal chauffeur, to us getting a McDonalds (even though you would laugh that you could only have 1 out of 20). Nothing was ever to much to ask and you would always help everyone with a large smile on you face.

If only we had more time with you. But you will always live on in our hearts and mind, and one day I will be able to rave about what an amazing man you were to my children. I hope you are made comfy up there sat with nanna and Dodge with a bottle of whiskey and some warm slippers. At least you don't have to worry about me taking your slippers and smelly socks off anymore.

Love you forever and always!

Dad/Grandad, Thank you, There is no words to describe how much me, Lina, the kids and all the family love and miss you. Your Grandkids, Brad, Leia-Jay and Lukas idolise you and will never forget everything you done for them, whether it was being their biggest supporter, being a taxi, or treating them to something nice (mostly McDonalds!!) whatever it was you done without hesitation.
I don't know how to convey what you truly meant to me so Im not going to try just know that I am honoured, proud and humbled to call you Dad and will miss you more than you could possibly imagine. I will forever treasure every moment but will remember with special fondness our football trip to Italy just a few weeks ago. We had such a laugh doing the 2 things, other than family that we loved the most, drinking and football..

You always put others 1st, always a constant in everyone life and are a proper top bloke.

I made a promise to you as you lay in your final resting place at home, I will keep that promise and when the time is right I will let her come join you.

Love you Dad, till we meet again..
Lee, Lina, Brad, Leia-Jay and Lukas

My hubby my Onslow my soul mate and my best friend no words can describe how lost and lonely I feel my life will never be the same without you. I love you so much we had 48 wonderful years as husband and wife and almost made our golden wedding anniversary but sadly you was taken far too soon. We have 2 amazing sons who gave us 4 wonderful grandchildren and 2 step grandchildren. You truly was a man in a million to have put up with me for that long (but you always knew that I was the BOSS as you told me that all the time ) you must have truly loved me even when I was nagging you to do something or take me out to different places ,you always just smiled and said ok what do you want to do or where do you want to go. We loved together laughed together and cried together (but rarely danced together lol) well I would cry but you would just give me that big toothy grin which always made me smile. Save my place right by your side up there until we meet again love you with all my heart

When we were little you were our armed chair always messing around with us and letting us kids get away with murder. That fun loving cheeky nature never changed, as I got older your were always the first to say “what you come as” or “what you done to your hair” when I arrived at a family party and had spend hours getting ready 🤣 More recently though you stepped up and also took on the role of honorary dad and grandad, always pulling me up for swearing too much, and letting Reg get away with far too much “oh his alright” and making him chuckle with your chattering teeth, which you even had to send me a video of while you were all on holiday because Reg was missing it 😂

Oz we will all miss you like crazy you were the kindest cheekiest soul that could always make me smile, I know we always joked but I really would have been so proud for you to walk me down the isle (not that the git has asked me yet) and I know dad would have wanted the same. I never actually told you how thankful and grateful I am for all your support and help with everything since losing dad, you were a rock for me and mum throughout, I just hoped you knew how much that meant to me.

Love and miss you lots you old git and hope you are finally chilling with your feet up, darts on, whiskey in one hand and fishing rod in the other.

Lots of love

Kerri, Nath and Reg x x x
