On 21st January 2025, suddenly but peacefully at home, Ossett, aged 72 years, Hywel, devoted and adored husband of Lynne, dearly loved and cherished father of Debbie, greatly beloved Dadcu and hero to Emily and Grace a dear brother, brother-in-law, uncle, great uncle, cousin and valued friend to many. Requiem Mass will be celebrated at English Martyrs RC Church, Wakefield on Monday 24th February 2025 at 11.30am followed by committal at Dewsbury Moor Crematorium. Relatives and friends please accept this intimation and meet at the church. All are welcome at the crematorium at 1.15 and at a reception to be held at the Cricket Club in Ossett. There is ample parking available.
Family flowers only please. Donations in lieu may be made online or placed in the collection box provided for the benefit of The Ambulance Staff Charity which provides emotional and psychological support for frontline ambulance professionals. We are deeply grateful for their care at such a difficult time.

Lynne and Debbie, you won’t know us but we remember Hywel with much much love. We are from Holy Rood Barnsley where Hywel led us in a youth group, arranged retreats, took us to Maltby on Fri nights and just THE most lovely man. Sharon and myself were only talking about him yesterday, reminiscing and laughing about various scrapes we got in. After he moved to Osset we lost touch somewhat to my shame, but sending Christmas cards for a good while. We were looking today to see if you were in Osset still and devestated to see Hywel has passed. Many, many condolences to you both, I know you will miss him dreadfully. Rest in peace Hywel, you were one top bloke!!! Lots of love from Angela and Sharon xx

Dear Angela and Sharon Thank you so much for getting back to us. I'm really sorry you had to hear about Dad's death like this. As you can imagine, it's been a dreadful and incredibly painful time. It can still be hard to believe at times. We miss him so much. Lynne remembers you well and is very grateful for your message. She is available on Facebook if you want to contact her directly. That’s lovely, Debbie, thank you. I’m afraid I don’t do Facebook any more after being hacked and allsorts of trouble with it. It’s my fault for not keeping in touch. Hywel was one character….no one like him …just lovely. I know we become saints when we pass, but it’s true..Hywel was the best, a genuine and gentle man. I really am so sorry you and Lynne have lost him and please send my best to Lynne. We did have a meal at an Italian and we did come to their home so Lynne had a great memory! It was so long ago! I am so saddened to hear of the death of Hywel.
He was my Mum and Dads Social Worker many years ago and was absolutely the best at his job.I would not have got through their illnesses without the advice and care from Hywel he had so much empathy and understanding and was admired by both families and staff at Care Homes.Thankyou Hywel you made a big difference to us all.RIP lovely man.

I am so sorry I am not able to get to the funeral today. I really wanted to be there but unfortunately it is not possible. It was such a shock to hear of Hywel's passing just as I was planning to reply to his regular Christmas message. I will miss his letters and messages. Keeping the family and its memories in touch. I was saddened to hear of Hywel’s passing. He was always cheerful, very chatty and interested in people, always a very welcome visitor to my mother’s house in Dun Laoghaire. Sincere condolences to Lynne and family and also to Noel and family.

Hywel was a true friend for over 50 years. We shared a sometimes quirky sense of humour, and enjoyed reminiscing about our time in Aberystwyth and the characters we knew in NCE. Jackie and I will miss our annual rendezvous in Criccieth! Sorry we can’t join Lynne and the family on the 24th, but you are assured of our love and prayers always. Gorffwys mewn hedd, Hywel.

Hywel was a really genuine,kind,sincere,fun loving and witty person.
I really enjoyed spending time in Hywel's company with my X- Husband Meurig,as he was interesting to listen to and fun to be with.

We enjoyed some memorable trips with Hywel and Lynne over many years and we will always remember Hywel as a kind, gentle and happy friend (though he wasn’t that gentle with me on the squash court!
