Christopher Baron-Smith (9 Apr 1982 - 26 Jan 2025)
Funeral Director
This obituary is in loving memory of Christopher John Baron-Smith who sadly passed away on 26th January 2025 after a short battle with meningitis.
The amazing team at Maidstone ICU, provided Chris with a fighting chance to overcome this illness as well as giving us an extra two weeks to be with him. Unfortunately, Chris wasn't strong enough in the end and he passed away peacefully with us all by his side.
Chris met many people throughout his years, especially through his working life, and all that met him loved his one of a kind, loud and colourful personality.
Chris began his working life in Tesco, working alongside our mum and family friends. However, he quickly realised (so did we all) that this would not be his life long career.
After relocating to Brighton, Chris then worked as an airline steward where he enjoyed travelling the world and making new friends along the way. Doing this role founded his love of helping people. If you knew Chris well, you knew he suffered with severe Asthma. After a nasty Asthma attack resulting in him having a short stay in hospital, this, as well as his new love of helping people, made him want to change his career path once again.
He then spent many years studying and training in London and in 2012 became a qualified paramedic with the London Ambulance service. Here is where Chris truly excelled and many colleagues became true friends. In his spare time he would also volunteer with St. John's Ambulance service, helping even more people.
In 2016, I (Chris's sister Suzie) and my family relocated to Kent, which then meant we were closer to Chris. However not close enough, and he moved to Sittingbourne to be with us in 2017. This meant that he left the London Ambulance service and after a short while, then worked full time with St. John's Ambulance service.
During the Pandemic, Chris was still working transferring some of the sickest Covid patients as well as supporting the fight against Covid 19 locally by vaccinating the public. Chris has spent his last three working years as a Senior Paramedic Practitioner across both Sittingbourne Memorial and Sheppey's Walk In centres, helping the local community.
Throughout his life, Chris has always been an animal lover and when he passed he was the proud Dad to Kitty and Finley, with his partner Danny. Before his cat Kitty, Chris also had Mr Fluffy who were both rehomed from a Rhodes Minnis Cat Sanctuary in Canterbury. As the funeral will be family flowers only, we are asking that anyone who wishes to make a donation in Chris's honour can do so to this much loved charity. I have set up a Just Giving page in honour of Chris and all donations will be going to help them find even more loving homes for kitties like Chris's two.

Chris's funeral will be held at All Saints Church, Iwade followed by a burial and then a celebration of his life in The Woolpack pub in Iwade. We would like all who wish to celebrate Chris's life to attend, however please can we ask that you speak to a member of his family if you wish to do so.

A great Collegue who was always have to share his wisdom. He was only kind and patient with his teaching but also to my other partner in crime Nala. End of shift play time consisted of ball games, and lots of cuddles. RIP Chris x

So sad to hear this news π’. We shared some VERY funny times training to become Paramedics, we laughed as much as we studied - sort of! We spent our first ever shift on an ambulance together and all our TSβing. Sending love to your family Xx β€οΈ
