My brother Brian grew up outdoors and loved our fishing. Some of our best times were had just sitting by rivers and lakes, larking about and stalking our prey.
The reason we got into the sport was probably because of our Uncle John. All the stories we’d hear from our parents or Auntie Morag of where John had been or where he was right now sent our little brains whirling with excitement.
Unlike us he was a proper fisherman, and probably our biggest hero.
When we were a little older, and still mad about fishing, John was kind enough to make us both a rod each. Something he was pretty good at. And I recekon I can speak for my brother if I say they were our most prized posessions, ever.
Now we’re both bigger little boys the rods are long gone but the fun times we had with them always remained and have led to so much more in our lives. Our Uncle John definitely had a part in doing that. Thank you Uncle John.
John Denman (2 Oct 1934 - 20 Jan 2025)
Funeral Director
John died on the 20th January 2025, at the grand age of 90. A long life, well lived.
Our memories of John - husband, Dad, Grandad - are full of colour. He was interested and interesting, with more hobbies than anyone we know. We are so grateful to have had him in all our lives and will miss him terribly.
See link on this page for his funeral details - it will be very informal and we are asking anyone coming along to dress in what you feel comfortable in, definitely no need for black. We are hoping it will be cheery, colourful and casual (like John).
The wake will be hosted at Restaurant 6, Trent Bridge Cricket Ground from 4.30pm - 6.30pm, all are welcome and we would love to see you there to celebrate John’s life.
Ta ta for now.
