In loving memory of David Calver who sadly passed away on 20th January 2025.

David was born in Wandsworth, London, the only child of Kathleen and Eric Calver. He was educated at the City of London School where he was a keen sportsman being part of the athletics, rugby, cricket and hockey teams. In his final years at the school he was very proud to be appointed as a school prefect.

David married Brenda on 25th July 1964 and they celebrated their momentous 60th wedding anniversary last year. They moved to their first house (which they actually had a major part in building themselves) in Meopham, Kent.

David was a real family man. He has three children - Andrew, Katherine and Peter and two grandchildren, Cerys and Dan who he loved dearly.

David was always very interested in all things mechanical and scientific. And after leaving school and doing his apprenticeship, he gained his qualifications as a chemical engineer. He pursued this profession as a lifelong career, with a major part of it working as a technical sales service rep for Hercules Powder Company supplying chemicals to the paper making industry.

David's interests and hobbies were varied including gardening, building model railways, history, astronomy, travel, sport, volunteering and supporting various charitable organisations such as the Chislehurst Society, Friends of the Chislehurst Commons, Gwent Wildlife Trust and The National Trust.

David loved travelling in Europe and was a good linguist, especially in the French language after having done an exchange arranged by his school with Bernard, eldest son of the Baerd family in Paris. They became lifelong friends. He always made a point of regularly keeping in touch with our relatives in Austria, South Africa, America and Brazil and continued to make many new friends through his work with Hercules and his family travels in the UK and Europe.

I was lucky enough to get to know David during my brief time in London in early 90s. I was in my early 20s back then and was far away from home. I clearly remember that I was always warmly welcomed in Calver family; David and Brenda were perfect role models for ideal parents. I am so sorry to find out that he passed away, may he rest in peace. My deepest condolences to Andrew, to Brenda and to his family. He will remain my happy memories.
