In loving memory of Brenda Lane who sadly passed away on 24th November 2024, aged 84 years.

Whilst Brenda had been unwell for many years, and had suffered a number of painful issues in this last year, her sudden loss was very traumatic and of course very upsetting. Nigel and Viv were with Brenda at the end, and she passed away peacefully in her sleep at home.

Brenda was born in Nottingham in 1940 to Charles and Muriel, and was an only child. Leaving school she started work as a Comptometer Operator - a very early form of the calculator, but considerably larger and much more complicated to use, and was also involved with book keeping and general office running.
Brenda met Brian and within a few years they were married. This was in Nottingham in 1959 when Brenda was just 19 years of age and Brian 21. They celebrated their diamond wedding in 2019 and were proud to receive a letter and photo from the Queen. They also enjoyed a celebration meal with family and friends at the Passage House Hotel in Newton Abbot.

They had 2 children, Nigel and Julie, though, sadly, Julie died in 1976, aged just 12.
Brenda had given up work to be a full time Mum when Nigel came along in 1961. But when Julie arrived in 1963, it was soon apparent that Julie had some serious medical conditions and Brenda devoted a considerable amount of time to her care with frequent trips to various hospitals. Brenda also found some time to help out as a volunteer at the Queens Medical Centre in Nottingham.
Brian and Brenda also have 2 grandchildren, Rebecca and Andrew and 2 great grandchildren, Toby and Lily. Brenda was so proud of them all and always loved receiving the latest photos and videos of what they had been up to, and she kept all of these on her iPad so that she could look at them regularly.

Brenda suffered some mild strokes at the age of 50, and so when
Brian retired early at the age of 54 they decided to move to Teignmouth. This was a place that they both knew well from many holidays as a family with Nigel and Julie, usually twice a year, at the Bairnscroft Hotel, just across the river in Shaldon.
They always enjoyed a trip across to Shaldon to see the old hotel, which is now retirement apartments.
Soon after moving to Teignmouth they also bought a new static caravan near Looe in Cornwall, and spent lots of time there with their dogs on the site itself, as well as trips into Looe and other Cornish seaside towns.
Sadly Brenda’s health continued to decline over the years, and Brian became her faithful and loving carer until his untimely death in the summer of 2022.

Dogs played an enormous part in Brenda’s life. They had dogs right from the beginning with Peppy and Whisky - both poodles. Later came Tina and then Suzi, also poodles. After that was Cindy-Lou, a small terrier and finally Charlie and Zoe both chihuahuas. Brenda adored all dogs and loved it when her special friend Corina and also Kelly brought their own dogs to visit in recent years.

The colour pink was also a constant theme, and became even more prominent when Brenda decided to have her hair coloured pink. Corina did this for her and refreshed it regularly so that Brenda always looked her best.

With her pink wheelchair, pink hair, pink clothes and pink handbag it’s no wonder that Brenda was often referred to as the Pink Lady when out with Nigel and Viv on one of her regular trips to her favourite local café’s and garden centre, and even further afield when she holidayed in Alrewas with Nigel and Viv.

Nigel Lane donated £500 in memory of Brenda

Rest In Peace Mum.

No more pain, no more tablets, and together again with Dad and Julie.

Missing you very much.

Lots of love,
Nigel & Viv
xxx
