Following a rapid deterioration in her health Joyce Boggis passed away suddenly, but peacefully on October 5th, 2024 aged 90. She was mother to David and Angela, grandma to nine loving grandchildren, sister to the late Monty and Joanie. She was like a sister to her cousin Sheila and had so many wonderful friends. Joyce lived in Stowmarket for almost 50 years and enjoyed an active life in the community for many years. She was known by many and loved by all. Her passing leaves a huge hole, only filled by the memory of her smile, her friendship and her love.

To celebrate Joyce’s life a service of Thanksgiving will be held in Stowmarket Parish Church on Thursday 24th October at 3.30pm Floral tributes c/o Andrew Bingham Independent Funeral Service, The Nutshell, Milton Road South, Stowmarket, IP14 1EZ or donations to one of three charities that have been chosen by the family following much thought and discussion.

St Elizabeth’s Hospice - Ever since Joyce lost her sister 20 year’s ago, she has supported the wonderful work of St Elizabeth Hospice, every month. This charity was a natural choice. Joyce also sadly lost both her mother and her brother to cancer.

Children’s Eye Cancer Trust (CHECT) - The niece of a close friend of Joyce’s daughter was supported by CHECT. They are a small charity that support families whose child or children have been diagnosed with Retinoblastoma. During their journey the charity offer advice, a listening ear, medical support and a play specialist to support during hospital visits. Children were the centre of Joyce’s world, most especially her nine grandchildren but she also had a huge interest in all of Angela’s friends, often asked after them and would remember so many details, including what they were doing, where they were at university and often even their birthday’s! Supporting the fantastic work that CHECT does, feels like a very fitting tribute to a much-loved grandma. She would love to think that some children benefitted from money raised in her memory.

Silver Stories - This is a relatively new charity which has made a significant impact in a short period of time. Silver Stories is a simple but incredibly positive idea. Children, known as Silver Readers, telephone a Silver Listener every week and read a story or poem. Readers and listeners alike feel valued, and they look forward to their weekly read. They share and discuss ideas for the next read. Some listeners like to write their own poems! Children’s confidence grows and very positive relationships flourish. The charity provides schools and parents all the information and support to allow the child to be safely paired with a reader. Listeners are supported too, and the charity maintains its contact with listeners and readers with monthly follow up calls to ensure all is running smoothly. Your kind donations will help to develop this growing charity.
