I knew Graeme many, many years ago when he lived in Sutton Coldfield, in a shared house, and he was a PE teacher. I always remember the story of how his first name was a family tradition.
He last got in touch when he lived in Kings Heath and told me about his son. He was very proud.
Im very sorry to hear of his passing and the circumstances surrounding this. It sounds as thou he had some troubles, and I hope he's now found some peace.
Hedley Graeme Mutton (29 Jun 1974 - 24 Nov 2015)
In loving memory of Hedley Graeme Mutton who sadly passed away on 24th November 2015.
Graeme was born on 29th June 1974 in the William Smellie hospital in Lanark, Scotland. He grew up in Blackwood attending Our Lady and St. John Roman Catholic Primary School and moved to Deeping St James, Peterborough when he was 7 years old, going to St Thomas More primary school in Peterborough. He remained a patriotic Scot throughout his life however. When he first moved to Deeping St James he served as an Altar Boy in the local Roman Catholic church, Our Lady of Lincoln and St Guthlac where his funeral service will take place.
He went to Stamford school for secondary school taking 'A' Levels in Geography, French and Maths. He had applied to read French and Geography at Queen Mary's College in London but after a gap year spent as an assistant teacher at Millfield School, he changed his mind and applied to read Mathematics and Physical Education at the University of Warwick where he went on to achieve a first class honours degree.
During his youth he was a very accomplished football player, playing for Deeping Rangers and reaching cup finals with Whittlesey, St John Fisher and Peterborough City. He played rugby for Stamford School first XV, being selected as a Y11 student to tour Australia with the first XV. His best sport was Hockey where he played for school, county and regional sides before being selected to play for Scotland U18s, U21s and the full national side. In fact, this talent allowed him to gain lots of sponsorship deals and to play Hockey all over the world. He was a fearless goalkeeper.
After his degree he did a PGCE at the University of Warwick before gaining employment as a teacher of PE at The Arthur Terry School in Sutton Coldfield. He then moved to Bournville School and Sixth Form Centre where he was Head of PE, Head of year, Assistant Head teacher and Deputy Head teacher. He spent 13 years at Bournville, during which he ran many football tours abroad, helping the local students, who may not otherwise have been able to afford such trips, to raise funds.
Whilst living in Birmingham his son Tyler was born in 2001. His son was always the apple of his eye and his number one priority. Despite Graeme's competitive nature and undoubted sporting prowess he did not push sports onto his son but gave him an opportunity in a range of sports such as Basketball, Gymnastics, Rugby, Badminton and Dance. Laterly, he had been very proud watching his son play football whilst helping to run the line or referee the team.
After moving away from the Birmingham region back to Deeping St James in October 2014, he worked as a teacher of Mathematics at the The Thomas Deacon Academy before moving to the Deepings' School and then back to
The Thomas Deacon Academy in June 2015 in a senior leader position.
He was an outstanding teacher, achieving the NCTL leadership qualification and leaving his mark on very many students. He was an even better Father, Son, Brother and Uncle. He was the father of Tyler, the middle child of 5 of Hedley and Sheila, brother of Alison, Justine, Sally and Jonathan, uncle of Rebecca, Matthew, Evan, Hannah, Millie, Kira and Constance.
