'Tac' was a true battalion character, from the first day I joined A Company he was fair, firm and loyal to all around him. A strong, professional Paratrooper. The news of his passing is as big a shock as it is a sad time for all, my heartfelt condolences go out to your family pal, and to all attending today - I send my very best, brothers like no others, until the FRV Tac, may god bless you on your journey brother. It may be decades since we met up, but your presence is never forgotten.

A genuinely wonderful and funny bloke and a great Paratrooper. Will be greatly missed by all who had the honour of meeting and serving with him. A sad loss to the Regiment and taken far too young. Until the final RV Tac. Stand down mucker.

Tac was one of the kindest and most thoughtful people I have ever met…..he was also an excellent Paratrooper! His brilliant sense of humour kept everyone going if morale was ever low and his ability to deal with whatever was thrown at him was admirable. He will be fondly remembered by so many of us and our thoughts are with his family.

A sad day and a shock to hear of Tac’s passing. An absolutely great bloke. It brings a smile to my face when I think of those great days in 1PARA together. Sorry I cannot attend today. Deepest condolences.

I met John in 1990 in 1 Para. He was a gentle giant of a man and a consummate professional, a fine Paratrooper and a generous, loyal and honourable soul. Whilst I cannot make it to the funeral I will raise a glass to his memory and think of all his family and friends on the day. Rest easy big man your duty is done you absolute legend and top man.
