Alan Brown (21 Mar 1953 - 23 Apr 2024)

Alan was the perfect combination of wisdom and wit. I'm certain that I'd not have been able to have the interesting career I've been lucky to have without his kindness and support when I was starting out. Always entertaining, Alan had an immense store of fascinating knowledge - with "funny stories" for every occasion. Truly a one off.

We lament the passing of a great friend and former colleague. Working with Alan at SEEVIC was a pleasure, not least in collaborating in running Wayfarers' trips. More recently, valued and much appreciated help to our family at a time of contact difficulty was readily forthcoming. He was ever generous and caring about those things in society that deserve greater fairness. Knowledgeable, perceptive, quick to spot irony, and always ready to contribute humour to whatever was going on - that was Alan.

So many happy memories of Alan, from our first meeting in the laundry room at Rochford ,Essex in 1976 to more recently at home, although poorly, retaining his fabulous sense of humour. I shall miss him.

How to capture Alan in a few words?
Excellent cook, bon viveur, raconteur, fellow cricket and rugby enthusiast, a man with encyclopaedic knowledge. Great company. Friend.

In memory of Alan - with thanks for his life

I will miss Alan’s humour and his appearance over the garden fence - so many quick witted comments -
He showed much kindness both to myself and my husband , Terry, over the years since we moved in to Copmanthorpe - especially during Terry’s final years when Alan would take him to the Sunflower Centre at St Leonard’s Hospice.
