Joyce Elizabeth Smith, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, peacefully passed away on March 14th, 2024, at the age of 97, in the comforting embrace of her grandson’s home in West Bridgford, Nottingham.

Born in Merthyr Tydfil, Wales, Joyce embarked on a life filled with boundless adventure and love. Her journey alongside her beloved husband, Graham Francis Smith, led them across continents, from their beginnings in the Welsh borders and then Oxford University to the vibrant culture of Nigeria and the scenic beauty of Vancouver. They also found solace in the tranquil landscapes of Fort Nelson and Presteigne in Wales, among other places they called home. Together, they created a tapestry of memories in these diverse locales.

Joyce's spirit was deeply intertwined with the natural world she adored. Her passion for the countryside was evident in her love for long walks and hikes, where her knowledge of bird species and plant life shone brightly. Her nurturing touch turned gardens into vibrant havens of beauty wherever she resided.

Those who knew Joyce will forever cherish her strength, unwavering positivity, and boundless love for her family. She was a force of nature, characterized by her headstrong resolve and tender-hearted compassion. Her adventurous soul and open-mindedness left an indelible mark on all who crossed her path.

Joyce leaves behind a legacy of love and resilience, survived by her son David, granddaughter Wingshan, grandson Aneurin, and his children Huey and Bea. Through them and the countless lives she touched, her memory will endure.

While Joyce's famous lasagne's and Welsh cakes will be deeply missed, her spirit will continue to inspire generations to come.

The family kindly requests donations to Nottinghamshire Hospice and Alzheimer's Society.

A celebration of Joyce's life will be held at Rushcliffe Oaks at 10:45am on Thursday 28th March 2024.
