Gary Cobley (2 Apr 1956 - 2 Mar 2024)

In loving memory of Gary Cobley who sadly passed away on 2nd March 2024.

Celebration of Life to be held at Taunton Crematorium at 12:00 on 11 April 2024, followed by a private internment. Please join us at Sheppy's Cider afterwards.

Gary Keith Cobley was born on 02 April 1956 to Keith and Joyce in Plymouth, Devon. He spent his early years in Exeter having been joined by his sister Karen, to whom he remained close.

The family returned to Plymouth where he was a well thought of pupil at Devonport High School for Boys. Having left school, he joined Lloyds Bank where he remained for much of his working life, living and working in various branches throughout Devon and Jersey, where he met his future wife Sally.

Gary enjoyed cricket from an early age, playing for various teams and later watching the games on TV. He also enjoyed skiing and had many happy holidays ‘on the piste’. He enjoyed visiting different places. Whilst living in Jersey, they spent many weekends in their caravan in France and touring around in his prized Peugeot 205gti 1.9 with a BBQ and a tent in the back, later to be superseded by a trailer tent with the arrival of the children…and then a house on the west coast of France.

Gary was a keen member of the Round Table, both in the UK and Jersey and in 1992 became Chairman of Ottery St Mary RT, a role he held with great pride.

He also had a great passion for music, especially live gigs and attended many over the years. A favourite live gig haunt of his was The Wharf in Tavistock and he would regularly attend Giants of Rock, Blues and Prog Rock festivals, usually booking the following year’s before the current one had finished.

He was a real BBQ aficionado, preferring to cook on one of his many BBQs, always with a well chosen soundtrack. Nothing better than a well cooked steak…often cooked under an umbrella.

Gary and Sally returned to Ottery St Mary in 1989, married in 1992 and completed their family with Dominique in 1994 and Ross in 1996, of whom he was very proud, along with various pets along the way. The family later moved to Somerset where he went on to work as an Independent Financial Advisor and Later Life Advisor.

Sadly, Gary died peacefully after a short but stoically fought illness on 02 March in Taunton with his close family beside him.
Deeply loved and sadly missed.
