I have heard your sad news.
John and I went back together for over 30 years first at Mills where I was MD; then at Chiron UK when I started my own Business; and afterwards at various Machine Tool gatherings throughout Europe. It’s hard to contemplate that of someone so full of life, ideas, and expectancy will no longer be there... solid... ever-present... a given.
Even back in those earlier days, when we were all immortal and the only people who died were Grandads; John was a Force of Nature. There was no-one in our sphere of Engineering in the North of England that John did not personally know, could not get hold of, could not contact to arrange a meeting. Both Customers and Competitors. It is a little overused phrase but John was, to me at least, Mr Machine Tools for his patch.
Of course that was then. We all got a little older; we are all Grandads now. Many, like myself retired, many went their separate ways, but there were a few (a very few) who stayed in touch, occasionally passing the time, occasionally chewing the fat; occasionally rueing the future. John was, I am proud to say one of those who stayed in touch; was searched out by Friends and Colleagues alike at Machine Tools Shows ,at Exhibitions… and frankly I cannot say more than that.
He was searched out, and now, not there; he will be missed.
