In loving memory our Dad Derek Wickham who sadly passed away on 6th December 2023

He had a very difficult 18 months and hadn’t recovered from emergency bowel surgery in July 2022.
After the surgery he spent 16 weeks in Queen Elizabeth hospital
He had lost the ability to walk, he had what they called delirium which was similar to dementia but he could snap in and out.
It was decided he wouldn’t be able to care for himself like he had before so he was transferred to a nursing home.
He was back and forth to hospital with so many infections
Each time I arrived in another ward of QE he would always say how did you find me.

His poor body was put through the mill but he remained positive and always asked if I brought his shoes.

He fought like a warrior I would never have thought he was that strong.
We are a mixture of relived and lost
It keeps hitting us that he is gone and it is just so sad it had to be like this.

He is back with our mum
And that makes us smile.
Love
Michelle and Andrew

Lovely Derek- a man who was larger than life and full of funny stories.
I helped him with his garden for several years & I always loved how upbeat & chatty he was. He would tell me the history of the massive tree in his garden, holidays he’d been on, how the grandchildren were, Postman days, his beloved wife.
An incredible character who will be sorely missed. Rest well Derek. From Alice x
