Janet Painton (23 Dec 1954 - 7 Nov 2023)

In loving memory of Janet Painton who sadly passed away on 7th November 2023
Mum was born on 1954 and lived in Mansbridge her whole life.
She met and married my dad Robert on Dec 23rd 1976.
Throughout her life she tried to live the best she could despite her renal failure.
She joined the army but came to realise it wasn't for her so she then worked in the blood transfusion service and after starting a family she worked on the tills at Safeway and after several changes that store eventually became Waitrose. She retired last year.
As a family we were close and I think to best sum up our family it definitely was keep calm and carry on but definitely do it with a sense of humor.

Growing up we didn't have any family holidays abroad because mum was scared of flying and we always had dogs to think about, we did however have lots of days out to museums and interesting places and landmarks, including going to Theme Parks, mum particularly enjoyed the Vampire Ride at Chesington World of Adventures, we would go on it several times a visit. We would also stay local and go to Royal Victoria Country park for a picnic or the New Forest for a walk or just walk around Mansbridge and Woodmill with the dogs. Sundays we might go for a meal in a pub somewhere.
Some of my best memories are us sitting on a blanket just eating sandwiches then swinging over streams on rope swings and climbing trees. Later on when Sam and I had grown up and flown the nest, mum and dad would go down to spend time together at Hatchet pond or Cadmans pool. In autumn time which was mums favorite season, mum particularly enjoyed going off for a ramble and finding mushrooms and fungi and dad would photograph it or wait till dusk and photograph the sunsets and the horses.

Mum loved animals and we always had pets, be it canaries to stick insects and of course our dogs many of you remeber Scooby our Great Dane because of his sheer size and our chows Linchow and Rocky. Then later we rescued Ghost the samoyed.But we also had visits from squirrels, crows, robins, sparrows, starlings and blackbirds , all had names of course.

Funny story when Scooby died, our cousin Ian was babysitting us they had to wheel Scooby down the garden path on a sun lounger with wheels and dig a hole gone midnight because he was too big to leave till morning when a vet vould arrive.

Christmas were spent together and Sam and I would be spoilt rotten and we would split the day between ours and nans house where many drinks were drunk but I remeber so much love and laughter with all the family, they really were the best times but I would like to add that I never got a Mr Frosty.

Her passion was for darts playing for the local ladies league and then mixed pairs with my dad Mansbridge club and Bitterne social. She enjoyed watching all the major events in TV and most recently given a signed photograph from Mark Dudbridge becuase she was to Ill to go to my dad's presentation awards.

At the end I would like to reasure everyone that mum was at peace, and was in no pain.

We will miss her so much. She was the best mum, wife and nan, we have lost our best friend, confidant, and the best general tea maker.

The one thing about our family is that we crack jokes or take the mick out of every rubbish situation we have been in.... through deaths, dodgy births,mums illnesses, dads new knees, near death situations, we laughed and joked and muddled our way through life together as a family.

Our humor helped us cope through all the bad times.. at least we could all make each other laugh.
We cried together then we laughed, some of us wet ourselves, but we just made the best of the bad situations.

The funeral has been booked on Thursday 30th November at Southampton Crematorium
