Margaret Jean Wright (4 Jul 1933 - 24 Sep 2023)

In loving memory of Margaret Jean Wright who sadly passed away on 24th September 2023
Born to Stanley & Winifred Evans in Chingford Essex, Margaret was the eldest of their three children and five years senior to her twin sisters Gwen & Rosemary.
During WWII the family moved to Shelvers Way in Tadworth to escape heavy German bombing, however all three sisters avoided a narrow escape from a bomb blast at their family residence in Tadworth before being moved again and evacuated to Skipton in Yorkshire. Margaret seemed to benefit from her home schooling in Yorkshire and had very fond memories of the farmhouse in which they lived including leaning to ride.
It was rather poetic that with Margaret moving to Tadworth that she was now only a stone’s throw away from her future husband, with Bryan living in Banstead. It was bizarre that they both would have visited the same German aircraft which crash landed in Burgh Heath between the two villages.
Margaret loved her hockey, drama, tennis and German lessons at School, but was inspired mostly by her PE mistress at Woodford High School for Girls.
Margaret trained at the London Hospital before qualifying as a physiotherapist in 1954. She then met Bryan in August 1959 on a walking holiday with HF on the Isle of Arun in Scotland. After the holiday, he was so keen to keep in touch, that he cycled from Banstead to Chingford to meet her again.
Not long after their holiday romance, Margaret and Bryan married in Chingford Methodist Church and moved into their first house together in Watts Lane, Tadworth where they had their first child Sally in 1964. Shortly after Sally was born, they moved across the road to Tadworth St, where they had their second child, Andy a year later in 1965.
Margaret loved her new home, so much so, that she still owns the property today having lived there for over 58 years. Margaret also loved her holidays though, especially walking holidays in the Lake District and the Yorkshire Dales with her family and friends.
Margaret’s spiritual home was the lakes and mountains, and she shared an incredible holiday in Feb 2008 in the Swiss Alps with Bryan and close friends before he died in October that same year. Margaret’s love of the Lake District passed down to her two children who both now regularly take walking holiday’s there themselves.
Margaret’s always thought of the needs of others over her own and her grandchildren loved the way she always expressed a keen interest in their lives. Margaret had a strong faith, and the church played a large part in her life with pastoral care being very important to her. Her sisters were so impressed that she was always encouraging others and for ever the diplomat and the peacemaker.
After Margaret had a stroke at 84, it was a privilege for her family to take it in turns to care for her so she could stay in her beloved home close to friends and neighbours. Shortly before Margaret turned 90, she moved into Andy & Nicky’s home where she lived with family all around her until she passed away peacefully in her sleep overnight on Sunday 24 Sept 2023.
Margaret’s kindness lives on in our memories as she was an incredible woman, who we are blessed to have been gifted as a Mum, Granny, Sister, Cousin and friend.
