In loving memory of Tom Bartlett who died very peacefully on 23rd August 2023.
There will be no formal service at the Waveney Crematorium, but everyone is warmly invited to come there at 11 am on Wednesday 11th October and share their memories of Tom. There will be no formal speeches, but anyone is welcome to speak about Tom if they wish to do so.
There will also be a memory book where hopefully friends will share anecdotes and comments about Tom.
We also hope that friends will join us at Langley with Hardley Village Hall afterwards from 12.30 pm for some refreshments and to celebrate Tom’s long and interesting life.
Tom was 97 at the time of his death and had lived in Hardley for over forty years. He really enjoyed being an integral part of village life, he served as Parish Councillor for some time and had many friends in the village. I know Tom would like his friends to raise a glass or two and wish him well! Also to thank you all for the kindness and support shown to him over the years. We look forward to welcoming everyone either at the Crematorium or the Village Hall or both.....

Subject: A tribute to Tom Bartlett G3ITB by Phil Holden G0JSG

I met up with Tom probably over 20 years ago through a shared hobby of Amateur Radio and membership of the Lowestoft Amateur Radio Club. In those days there was nothing more he liked than taking part in what the radio fraternity call field days. This involves setting up a radio station and antennas away from buildings and domestic power. Sometimes in a caravan or tent for example.
Tom nearly always used Morse code rather than speech when communicating all over the world. In those days I thought that was marvellous and decided that one day I would learn Morse myself. A few years ago we met up again and with others started to have a monthly lunch, to keep in touch and exchange information and ideas.
Then the pandemic hit! The pub we used shut and we had to abandon our lunches. By this time I had started to learn Morse code and Tom offered to practice with me each week. This we continued to do until he fell at home and broke his hip. Despite this setback he was still willing to talk about my progress and was very encouraging.
My wife and I visited Tom only a few days before his passing and we remarked how he seemed to be progressing well. How wrong we were!
I, and my fellow local amateur radio hams will greatly miss Tom. He had a wealth of knowledge and tales of past happenings. Always ready to participate with encouragement and advice. A great loss on a personal and local level. RIP Tom.

This is a photo of Tom G3ITB and I activating Holton post mill in Suffolk for an Amateur radio event called “ mills on the air” Tom really enjoyed the event , especially the fish and chips that we devoured in the evening.

The best maths teacher I ever had. Had the patience of a saint and got me through to a decent pass. Just understood what kids needed. Great guy.
