Assuming this is the Arthur Kerr with whom I studied creative writing, in 2009, at the University of Glasgow, I am deeply moved by this loss. It has been fifteen years. One night in December of 09 he was kind enough to invite my girlfriend and I to his home, where I met his lovely wife. It’s been so long, but I believe her name was Margaret. We shared excellent food and wine and discussed literature amidst a load of laughs. Then we shared excellent Highland Park whiskey and I remember nothing else of that night.

Arthur was the soul of generosity. He was kind, he was funny, outrageously intelligent. Everyone liked him. I think about him often, which is why I Googled him to see if, perhaps, he had published a novel.

It is quite possible this message is too late to be received and no one will read it. It is also possible I am messaging about the wrong Arthur Kerr—in which case, I sincerely apologize.

But on the off chance this letter gives any comfort to a friend or family member so blessed as to know Arthur I feel this note is worth the writing and the possibility of being a fool.

I miss Arthur. I’d hoped to see him again some day on a future visit to my Scottish home.
